THE VERRA STORY

We started with a question nobody was asking.

DJ and Ridhima Goel built Verra because nobody could tell them what was in the water they washed their food with.

The founding moment

After DJ and Ridhima got married, they started paying attention to their kitchen. Not just the cooking. The washing. Ridhima would rinse an apple under the tap, cut it up, and eat it. Wash grapes for guests. Slice cucumber for a salad. Quick-clean a plate under running water and put it back in the rack.

One day the question landed: what is actually in the water we are washing everything with?

For food you cook, boiling takes care of most of it. But for food you eat raw, and for the plates and bottles and utensils you quick-wash, whatever is in the tap water is now on the surface. Bacteria, chlorine, sediment. No heat. No safety net.

They looked for a product that solved this. There was not one. Every water brand in India was selling drinking water. Nobody had thought about the water that touches the things you eat from and the food you eat without cooking. So they built one.

The science

DJ had already been working with Professor Rohit Karnik at MIT, one of the most respected water research scientists in the world. Together they had developed Membrix, a patented multi-layer water conditioning technology. The research team spans MIT, IIT Jammu, and IIT Kanpur, with two additional PhDs and a full lab dedicated to the work.

No electricity. No water wastage. 6 unique layers of conditioning in a system you can fit on a kitchen tap.

The name

Verra comes from verrafied. We wanted a word that meant something specific: this water has passed through Membrix conditioning and it is safe for the food and surfaces it is about to touch.

Has your water been verrafied? That is the question we want every household in India to ask.

No electricity.
No waste.

Every Verra product works without electricity and without wasting water. No RO drainage pipe. No power socket. No recurring rental. You install it, the water passes through Membrix, and it works.

This is a design decision, not a limitation.

Designed at MIT.  Built for India.

Membrix was developed at MIT, IIT Jammu, and IIT Kanpur by Indians who came back to build something that mattered here. The patents are American. The research spans three of the best engineering institutions in the world.

The kitchens where Verra lives are in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and every city where families care about what goes into their homes.
