We started with a question about dal.
DJ and Ridhima Goel built Verra because nobody could tell them what water was going into their food.
The founding moment
After DJ and Ridhima got married, they started cooking together every night. And at some point, Ridhima asked the question that nobody in India was asking: what water are we actually cooking with?
Not drinking. Cooking. Washing the vegetables. Boiling the rice. Cleaning the utensils. The water that touches food in an Indian kitchen every single day.
They looked for a product that could answer that question. They could not find one. Every water brand in India was selling drinking water. Nobody was selling kitchen water. So they built one.
The science
DJ had already been working with Professor Rohit Karnik, a senior mechanical engineering professor at MIT who runs one of the most respected water research labs in the world. Together they had developed Membrix, a patented multi-layer water conditioning technology that works without electricity and without wasting a single drop of water.
The technology was originally designed for large-scale water challenges. DJ and Ridhima adapted it for the smallest and most important scale: the home.

The name
Verra comes from verrafied. We wanted a word that meant something specific: this water has been through 25 layers of Membrix conditioning and it is ready for what it is about to do. Cook your food. Wash your baby. Touch your skin.
Has your water been verrafied? That is the question we want every household in India to ask.

The mission
Verra exists to bring science to the Indian home. Not the science of a lab or a whitepaper. The science of 25 layers of Membrix conditioning between your tap and your kitchen. The science of a test strip in the box that proves the water is clean. The science of a money-back guarantee that says: if it is not, we will make it right.
No electricity.
No waste.
Every Verra product runs without electricity and without wasting water. No RO drainage pipe. No power socket required. No recurring filter rental fee. You install it once, the water passes through Membrix, and it works.
Read the science →This is not a compromise. This is a design decision. Membrix was engineered to work this way because the best technology should not require the most resources.
Designed at MIT. Built for India.
Membrix was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by Indians who came back to India to build something that mattered. The patents are American. The purpose is Indian.
The kitchens, bathrooms, and nurseries where Verra lives are in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and every city where families are paying attention to what goes into their homes.
